The 9th of April 2018 marked a very special occasion for Adeniyi Osikoya, who obtained his Doctor Technologiae (DTech) in Chemistry during the Autumn Graduations for the Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences, which took place at the Vaal University of Technology. His thesis for his study was the Synthesis and Characterization of Electrocatalytic Graphene for Electrochemical Sensing and Bioelectronics.
Mr Adeniyi Osikoya was born in Nigeria where he attended Oro Grammer School, in Oro Kwara State Nigeria where he obtained his West African Schools certificate in 1982. He then went on to study at the University of Lagos and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Industry Chemistry in 1990. After his mandatory Nigerian National Youth Service Crop in 1991, Mr Adeniyi Osikoya was employed as Production Chemist at Eleganza Industries in Nigeria from 1996 – 2004, then became a Factory Manager in Linda Manufacturing Company Ltd from 2004 – 2008. He was later employed as a Production Manager at Vineyard Product Company Limited from 2009 – 2011
In 2012, Mr Adeniyi Osikoya decided to come VUT where he registered for his Masters degree in Chemistry and obtained it in 2014. He then started his doctoral studies in 2015, where he later proceeded to Biosensors and Bioelectronics centre at IFM Linkoping University in Sweden, where he was able to perform cutting edge world standard research, under his co-supervisor Prof. Ashutosh Tiwari. Even though it was a long and tough journey, Mr Adeniyi feels super excited and very grateful about obtaining his DTech. He saw it as a once in a lifetime achievement, that would have not been successful without the help of his wife Mrs Lola Osikoya, his daughter Fumi Osikoya, and his supervisor Prof. Ezekiel Dikio. He further encouraged other students to finish their studies and to always keep their eyes on the ball because the secret to success is to never give up.
