The Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Limited (IDC), on behalf of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), manages the SPII programme. SPII is to provide financial assistance i.e. PPD Scheme for the development of commercially viable, innovative products and /or processes and facilitate commercialization of such technologies.

The Product Process Development (PPD) Scheme is intended to promote innovation and technology development through the provision of financial assistance for the development of new products and/or processes. A new product is a product that has not been in the market before.

Funding channels like the SPII program are used to get products developed through a reputable sub-contractor. The VUT plays a valuable role in this process, as the potential client is guided and assisted through the application process. Assistance is provided as sub-contractor not only in terms of the development itself, but also through the subsequent project management and auditing processes.

The Technology Station in Materials and Processing Technologies (TSMPT) assist SMME manufacturers of metals-based products and composites-based products to improve their products, product knowledge and skills, processes, process knowledge and skills.

VUT willingly assists and guide potential clients with any viable and marketable products and ideas, as part of our mandate to assist SMME’s.
