Five lanes forward: Prof Oosthuizen’s journey to Associate Professor

The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) proudly continues its Staff Promotion Recognition Series by celebrating Prof Oosthuizen of the Department of Tourism and Integrated Communication in the Faculty of Human Sciences. Her promotion from Senior Lecturer to Associate Professor marks a significant milestone, one that reflects scholarly growth, sustained academic contribution, and the strengthening of women’s leadership within higher education.

Prof Delia Oosthuizen first learned of her promotion in an unexpected way. “The team from Human Resources (HR) was unable to reach me in my office, as I was on leave. I then saw the notice on the e-communications,” she shares.

Beyond the moment itself, the milestone carries deeper meaning. “The promotion represents a strategic shift in my path. It allows for formal recognition of my academic leadership, and most importantly, it reflects scholarly maturity, the ability to lead, influence, and contribute to research and student development during supervision.”
