__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The importance of Research and Development to the GDP of a nation is now well established. The economy of a country strongly depends upon the number of trained scientists, engineers and technologists, and particularly on the number of Ph.D.s in Science, Engineering and Technology. In view of this, and in light of the analysis of the opportunities offered to it (as described in this document, VUT has decided to greatly increase its production of trained manpower (PhDs) and to focus this effort on the four areas in which ICBT wishes to develop excellence, namely: • Chemical Engineering and Process Intensification • Chemical Technology • Biochemical and Bio-Technology • Environmental Technology
