TECHNOLOGY STATION
in Materials and Processing Technologies
The Technology Station in Materials and Processing Technologies (TSMPT) aspire to be of service to small, medium and micro sized manufacturers who produce metals-based and composites-based products. The manufacturers targeted by TSMPT will typically be situated in Gauteng and neighbouring regions.
TSMPT will be offering two types of consulting and training services. The first type focuses on product improvement, and the improvement of product knowledge and skills. The second type concentrates on process improvement, and the improvement of process knowledge and skills.
TSMPT is closely associated with the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) situated in Vanderbijlpark. It is by having access to VUT staff, students, equipment and infrastructure that TSMPT will be able to provide consulting and training services. TSMPT’s management group consists mostly of senior VUT staff members and other specialists on contract appointment.
The blend of theory and practise incorporated into the services offered by TSMPT are rather unique. Not only will SMME manufacturers be exposed to current academic texts and thoughts, but they will also be brought into contact with state of the art machinery and equipment.
TSMPT has a dual purpose. Its major objective is to help SMME manufacturers grow and prosper, so that they may contribute to economic growth and job creation in South Africa. TSMPT’s second objective is to transfer knowledge and skills back to VUT staff and students.
