"Vallies Alumni Today" Statement Of The General Assembly Held On The 29th October 2011 The Vaal University of Technology Alumni Association General Assembly discussed and resolved on the following:
Introduction
This statement is intended to provide an overview of the General Assembly which took place on the 29th October 2011 at the Vaal University of Technology Main Campus.
The General Assembly was blessed with the present of the University Management and a guest Speaker from Cape Peninsula University of Technology. The General Assembly continued to receive a report from the Alumni Executive and discussed the proposed Constitutional Amendments which followed by the election of the Alumni Board in line with the amended Constitution of the Association.
Address by Guest Speakers
The General Assembly was addressed by Ms. Kediementsi Mokotsi, the Manager for Corporate Affairs who welcomed everyone and introduced Prof Zide, VUT DVC: Governance and Operation who addressed the General Assembly. Prof Zide emphasized the importance of the Alumni of the University and the role it should play thereof. He further challenged the Association to identify one or two projects in which the Association will embark on as its legacy. He encouraged the Alumnus to continue working towards building a vibrant Alumni Association and he is confident that in the near future many Alumni will attend this kind of gatherings in numbers.
The General Assembly was further blessed with the presence of Ms. Nandi Madadasana who is responsible for Pre-Alumni Programme in Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
Alumni Update Report
Due to the absent of the former Secretary General without apology, the Alumni President presented the Alumni Update report as prepared by the Alumni Executive Committee. The report clarified on what was the mandate of the executive committee as agreed in an Inaugural Summit in October 2009. The report further indicated on the developments made by the association since its inception and amongst from all was the developments on ensuring that the environment is conducive within the University for the Alumni to participate in structures of governance like Council, Senate, Institutional Forum and VUT Foundation. The report went further to pose some challenges which the Association faced which were mainly structural which led to the General Assembly agreeing on replacing the position of the Secretary General with the one of the Alumni Coordinator and further agreed to change the Association structural arrangement. Constitutional Amendments
The General Assembly further discussed and made amendments to the constitution of the Association in addressing the structural challenges the Association was facing, and further ensured that it is aligned with the amended Statute of the University. The final constitution will be published as soon as it is finalized as amended and adopted by the General Assembly.
Alumni Association Board
The General Assembly has taken a decision to elect the Alumni Association Board to ensure that it is aligned with the new constitution and the following were elected as the Vaal University of Technology Alumni Association Board:
