The VUT Desmond Tutu Great Hall at Vanderbijlpark main campus is the host of 9 graduation ceremonies, two sessions per day at 10:00 and at 14:00, where 1878 diplomas and degrees will be awarded.
This number includes 4 master’s degrees and 2 doctorates, which has increased from 3 to 4 and from 1 to 2 respectively in 2010. The overall diplomas and degree are divided amongst our 4 faculties as follows:

Total 1878
The Faculty of Management Sciences leads the way and boasts 718 graduates with 2 master’s degrees, followed by the Faculty of Human Sciences with 1 doctor’s degree and 2 master degrees. The Faculty of Engineering and Technology will award 1 doctor’s degree. It also celebrates the increase in the total number of women in SET (Science, Engineering and Technology) sector, from 237 to 272 compared to March 2010.
The graduation ceremonies of 2011 had several milestones with an increased number of students attaining “cum laude” accolades. Added to this, is the increased number of both staff and SRC (Student Representative Council) members who have obtained qualifications. More than 50% of SRC members crossed the stage this year to mark their academic achievements in both degrees and diplomas. VUT Vice-Chancellor, Professor Irene Moutlana said, “I’m truly impressed with the achievements of both staff and students during these graduations. It shows that our people are starting to believe in the qualifications of our institution. I wish to congratulate everybody and wish them great careers for their future.”
