From Campus to Stonehaven, Riviera ... and ends with a boatride!
What a journey it has been for this year’s recipients of the Annual Research Awards The Vaal University of Technology prides itself with sublime academic standards, unrelentless community engagements and robust research output. These three pillars have for many years catapulted the university to a level of unparalleled status in the higher education landscape, both in South Africa and abroad.
VUT hosted the Annual Research Awards in all four of its faculties namely, Human Sciences, Management Sciences, Applied & Computer Sciences and Engineering & Technology.
The Research Directorate, under the ingenious leadership of Dr Bernadette Johnson, has been enjoying a long run of research magnificence, celebrating research of brilliant outputs and dimensions. To date, the Research Awards have been turned into an annual occasion for various Faculty Research Awards which ultimately culminates in the Institutional Research Award Function. Research awards are currently categorised into Research Achievement and Research Excellence, allowing the institution to acknowledge and encourage upcoming researchers whilst continuing to acknowledge more established researchers.
Receiving a research award is a tremendous achievement irrespective of the category, whether it is conference attendance, patents or the graduation of Master’s and Doctoral students. The Research Directorate sees these awards as a gesture to encourage and stimulate a culture of research that will eventually enhance the quality of learning and teaching at VUT. Furthermore, the intention is to broaden the awards opportunities through recognising the achievements of post-graduate students and creating more opportunities for appreciating and recognising active researchers. “Research is something which manifests your highest potential” said Dr Johnson. People are encouraged to engage in research and take the institution to the highest level of research activity. We would like to take this opportunity to say: “Well done!” to all the recipients.
