Making Teen dreams a reality For many matriculants, the tedious daily routines of schooling have come to an end. Now starts the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of first year students as they look forward to obtaining a university education. Twelve long years of arduous routine will change once they peruse their long term goal of become a graduate.
Their journey begins at the registration queue with the build up of anxiety of choosing a career path. Now the time has finally arrived for them learners to change their status to students of higher learning. VUT opened for registration on 12 and 13 January 2012 for all first year late applications. The initial process started from the 3 January 2012 to reduce the risk of long queues. Shortly after the matric results were published, the university staff was inundated with enquiries and soon queues formed leading from right outside the gates. As the registration got underway, queues grew longer each day as learners flooded the gates of VUT. By Monday 12 January 2010 the university had already received 2035 applications. Although this was anticipated, the turnout of learners was a pleasant sight and staff coped exceptionally well as none of the learners were turned away. They came from all parts of the country including international students from Lesotho, Ghana, Uganda, Botswana and Nigeria. VUT staff teamed up with SRC members, volunteers and contracted assistants who tirelessly worked to ensure all systems were up and running smoothly to avoid any discrepancies. The faculty of Engineering and Technology is leading with the highest number of applications, specifically in Civil Engineering followed by Electrical Engineering. The registration process is on track and we hope to begin 2012 with new vigor and valor as we continue to produce excellence in higher education for the nation.
