Ladies and Gentlemen, for the purpose of this gathering, I would like to examine the psycho social realities within which we function within an organisation, and how best we can navigate these towards transformation in a fair, just, and equitable way.

The South Africa Technology Network (SATN), formed three years ago to promote an integrated approach to higher education and co-operation with international institutions, is holding its third annual indaba this year under the theme: “Universities of Technology driving Human Resource Development through Partnerships”

As from July 2010, Vaal University of Technology (VUT) students have an opportunity to collaborate with any person worldwide through Google Apps for Education. Google Apps offer services such as: email, instant messaging, contact management, calendar, space for shared documents, and online document creation. The initial roll-out will focus on registered students and later be extended to alumni student.

This ceremony represents those “magic” special occasions that are so vital in building “significance” into the collective life of any institution.  These occasions Ladies and Gentlemen or rituals such as this inauguration are always characterized by moments of ecstasy and exclamation points, that mark life’s major passages.  Without these rituals and ceremonies, transitions remain incomplete, a clutter of comings and goings.  Life becomes an endless set of Wednesdays (Bolman & Deal).
