Vice-Chancellor & Principal

Prof I.N Moutlana


Professor Moutlana holds Masters and Doctor of Education degrees from Harvard University under a Fullbright Scholarship. She has passion, dedication and commitment to people development evident in her experiences as a high school teacher and her subsequent upward mobility in the higher education sector from Lecturer to Professor. At the time of her appointment at the Vaal University of Technology, she was an Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Technology at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) post-merger. She had been a Vice-Rector: Academic at Port Elizabeth Technikon prior to the merger.

She has been a member and chair of various higher education committees, and has been a community developer through various funded projects. In recognition of this community work, she was nominated a Business Woman of the Year (2002). She earned teaching and research fellowships at Harvard University through her dedication and commitment to the profession. She has delivered numerous conference papers at both national and international levels, public and keynote addresses, and has a number of publications to her credit. Also, she participated in public Radio and TV debates on the issue of appropriate language for higher education instruction.






Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic

Prof H A Louw

Prof Alwyn Louw joined the Vaal University of Technology on 01 February 2008 as Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic. He is a sociologist with extensive experience in the academic and management spheres as lecturer and manager at different levels. He also spent time in the business world before entering the academic profession on a full-time basis.

He delivered papers nationally and internationally and has numerous publications to his credit. He has a keen interest in contributing to the improvement of the well-being of people. He has therefore had extensive involvement in community based projects and is still involved extensively in various civil society structures in leadership positions.

As manager he has experience as middle manager in academic regional and campus management of general Higher Education planning and delivering. From this he moved to Vice-Principal: Academic and later Vice-Principal: Learner Support positions. During this period he had exposure to a broad spectrum of Higher Education management areas. Central to this was the involvement in the management of various change processes as part of the transformation of Higher Education. In addressing the change process he served as Special Advisor Open Distance Learning to the Vice-Chancellor of UNISA, being responsible for re-designing the institution's business model.













Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Governance & Operations

Prof G.N Zide

On 01 June 2007, Dr GN Zide officially seized the reins as Vaal University of Technology’s (VUT) Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Governance & Operations. The role entails strategically planning the development and maintenance of processes, systems and organisational arrangements to Corporate Affairs, Academic Support, operational and logistical support to all satellite campuses.

Prior to his present position, Dr Zide held the post of Director: Organisational Transformation and Equity Development at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU).
