FOCUS OF THE UNIT



In line with the White Paper 3, A Programme for the Transformation of Higher Education, 1997, the Vaal University of Technology embraces and commits itself to the following priority areas.

  • Creating a conducive environment for teaching, learning and collegiality
  • Restore morale and confidence of staff and students.
  • Promote effective governance systems
  • Contributing to the creation and sharing of knowledge
  • Promote equal opportunity for all
  • Promote a culture of accountability and broad consultation of stakeholders and interested parties.

Cognizant of injustices and unfair practices of the past, Higher Education Transformation agenda sets amongst its objectives, a need to develop and promote effective governance systems, a solution-driven institution towards society’s priority needs, a service friendly environment, opportunity for individuals to develop in their unique talents and potential. Transformation has to permeate the university and involve all members of the university community. Vaal University of Technology acknowledges its unfortunate past as well as its current challenges, in its quest to transform, VUT intends to engage with staff and students to map its future.

Transformation at VUT involves healing from past painful experiences as well as rigorous processes of engagements with staff and students. It also prioritizes creation of learning and teaching environment that responds to the profile and character of our students.
