On 21 August 2009, VUT obtained the position of ‘best exhibitor 2009 SASOL Techno X’. A total of 42 exhibitors (universities and private companies) participated in this year’s Maths, Science and Technology exhibition that was held at the Boiketlong Sports Centre in Sasolburg. Sasol Techno X aims to provide guidance and motivate the grade 11 and 12 learners to better understand the fields and career paths of Maths, Science and Technology. “Sasol Techno X seeks to provide a practical platform for learners to experience and have a wide range of scope on this field”, said Johan Furter, Managing Director of Sasol Infrachem during his welcoming remarks at the nineth Sasol Techno X.

Themed ‘Quest for Knowledge’, this year’s Techno X was filled with informative, fun filled activities. In the VUT marquee tent, the departments of Fashion, Recruitment, Chemical Engineering, Tourism, VUT Clinic, ICBT, Technology Station, Sports Academy, Mechanical Engineering, and Chemistry: Applied & Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering participated in the three day quest for knowledge. Interesting and exciting projects that were displayed encouraged learners to engage with exhibitors. The Fashion parade by our students drew much attention to VUT.

When speaking to the Public Relations Officer, Ms Zelda Kotze, who worked hard to ensure participation from the various departments, she acknowledged that the effort was worth it. Over the two years, the Corporate Affairs Department has experienced very little support form the other departments. “This year, we were like a family, the exhibitors were very committed and cooperative” said Zelda.

The Vice Chancellor and Principal commended all the participants of this project.
