The Vaal University of Technology E-Skills CoLab in Pofadder, near Upington, held its first official certification ceremony on 1 March as part of the Social Economic and Enterprise Development (SEED) programme’s training project.
The CoLab has partnered with Kachu Solar One through their SEED programme for the delivery of e-literacy development, community upliftment and SMME creation in Pella, Onseepkaas, Witbank and Pofadder.
Mr Jose Elonga was the programme director and Mrs Antoinette Lombard, CoLab Director, gave the welcome and opening address. Ms Kathleen Maasdorp, the Abengoa GDO Administrator, gave her message of support to the graduates and thanked the students for their efforts in taking the first steps in breaking the chains of poverty.
Issabella de Koker, one of the graduates, expressed her gratitude and thanked the organisers and directors of the E-Skills project for bringing the training to their community. She also thanked her fellow students for taking part in this programme and made special mention of the Centre Manager and Facilitator Mr Wallace Scheepers, for his dedication and commitment to the group of students.
Mr Marius van Niekerk, the Director of the Oversight Branch at DTPS gave a congratulatory message to the students, saying that their achievement was not only important for them personally, but for the country as well.
Their success will enable them to use the ever-changing ICT technology, give them tools for improving their lives and help in sustaining economic development in their community and eventually in South Africa as a whole, he said.
