The three foremost Higher Education Institutions in Gauteng
co-hosted the first SASCE international conference in Tshwane
on the 5 th & 6 th April 2004. The theme was “Co-operative
Education: Towards growth and development of Africa’s workforce”.
In spite of the public holidays, more than a hundred delegates
graced the conference. Keynote speakers included the Vice Chancellor
and Rector Prof. AT Mokadi from the VUT, and the Deputy Director
General of the department of labour Ms. A Baird. Prof. A T Mokadi
gave a moving speech titled “It is about time”; he
passed a message of hope to coop practitioners that it is about
time cooperative education occupied its rightful place in the
new higher education landscape. Distinguished international speakers
came from Germany and the USA.
