BRIEF SUMMARY ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Student Life and Governance Department provides support to all VUT students, but most particularly the Student Representative Council (SRC) and we support over 110 student structures that are clustered in different categories such as POLITICAL, SOCIAL, RELIGIOUS, and ARTS AND CULTURE.

We provide co – curricular education as we complement the learning that occurs in the classroom. We support and prepare students for the working environment as well as to be ambassadors of their communities.

SERVICES OFFERED

1.1 Training and Development

We are responsible for uplifting students through our training interventions, workshops and seminars. Part of the work that we do is to develop a well-rounded, holistic student that will ultimately be a marketable graduate that has high levels of communication and interpersonal skills amongst many. We also run community development projects that promote civic engagement and selflessness among students by uplifting and caring for others through these community initiatives

1.2 Student Governance

The Student Life and Governance Department oversees + – 110 student structures that have their own programs and events on a weekly basis. The Student Representative Council (SRC) also falls under the Student Governance portfolio. We oversee all SRC projects and events ranging from SRC Festivals to SRC community development drives. We attend to all student related problems such as registration issues, students in distress, and victimization of students by lectures and general student issues such as the creation of living and learning  spaces .We also coordinate and oversee the SRC Elections and political seminars within all campuses. We have a responsibility of encouraging student activism.

1.3 Arts and Recreation

The Student Life and Governance Department is also responsible for unleashing student potential and identifying student talent and nurturing it to greater heights through our Arts and Recreational Activities. We have a variety of student ethnic groups and cultures. Our student Arts and Culture structures continue to do the university proud in festivals, concerts, competitions and other platforms of National and International status. These groups play a vital role in bringing the community closer to the university and visa versus

1.4 Student Social Life

We promote vibrant student and campus life through various edutainment activities. We challenge students to strive for personal, academic and social growth. Our social events are planned in a manner that creates a safe and enjoyable environment for all students .We pride ourselves in the security and compliance measures that we put in place for all our social events and programmes .

1.5 STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC)

The SRC represents students at all levels of governance within the Institution .They are the official student voice and serves as a liaison between management and the student body. They also organize social platforms and entertainment forums for all University students, part of the work they do is to ensure that there are developmental programmes, Community Drives, HIV/AIDS Support and academic seminars for all students.
