Gauteng Softball Association (GASA) hosted the GASA league finals at the VUT Isak Steyl stadium on Saturday, 10 March 2018. The VUT softball men went toe to toe against Normans, their bitter rivals.
This was the 3rd encounter between the rivals this season with VUT having previously lost twice. Our team lost to Normans yet again unfortunately, the final score being 9 runs to 5. Tebogo Mapheto, the team’s senior player, believes they could have played way better if it wasn’t for their poor concentration which led to Normans taking full advantage of the predicament they were in. “It was heart-breaking that we lost to Normans in front of our home supporters, we were extremely hurt,” he said. He also says that the team is used to the kind of atmosphere but not so much supporters rallying behind them and that they should have taken full advantage of it.
We have previously played against Normans in the GASA Super men league finals over the past few years where we recorded 1 win out of 3 finals in the knockout system.
Tebobo was adamant that their next focus will be the USSA
(University Sport South Africa) tournament which they have previously won for 6 consecutive years (2010-2016). They also have a tournament in Botswana during the Easter holidays where they will be competing to be in the top 4.
