“Embrace your passion and commit to your dreams” advises the Cum laude graduate

Vibrant 21-year-old Nothando Innocentia Mkhonto hails from a small township located in the outskirts of Nelspruit in the Mpumalanga Province. She recently graduated with a Diploma in Biotechnology and ultimately obtained a Cum Laude at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT). Nothando began studying in 2018 and she narrates her story as very challenging and having to cope with academic demands was the worst thing for her amongst many other issues such as peer pressure and financial stress.

“Know your purpose, embrace your passion and commit to your dreams. Have confidence in your abilities and be selfish about your future. Be mindful of your circle, and make sure those you keep around you add value to your purpose and don’t allow anything or anyone to stand in the way of your success. The battle is against poverty, not one another. Run your race at your own pace and give it your all. NEVER GIVE UP!” advises Nothando. These words are the source of her motivation throughout all obstacles.

She is currently doing her advanced Diploma at VUT and eagerly wants to continue studying further and move up the research levels. The bold Nothando reckons that with the rapid increment in environmental changes, the world will therefore require more scientists and she plans to be one of them.
