    Meet Dr Kirsty- Lee Sharp living by the motto: Do what you love, love what you do

    Dr Kirsty-Lee Sharp is a Senior Lecturer in the Marketing, Retail Business and Sport Management Department. She holds the qualifications of a BCom in Entrepreneurship (Cum laude) 2010, BCom Honours Entrepreneurship and Marketing (Cum laude) 2011, Master’s in Marketing Management (Cum laude) 2012 and a PhD in Marketing Management 2014, which she obtained at North West University Vaal Triangle Campus. Furthermore, she has a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education (Cum laude) which she obtained from the Vaal University of Technology in 2016.

    She is currently working on a research project titled: ‘Advertising on various social media/social networking platforms’.

    Her research project is expected to:

    • Create research outputs which will not only generate a number of research outputs, but a third income stream for VUT through assisting SMEs with their advertising on social media/social networking sites.
    • Create a niche research focus area, which will be advantageous to the department in terms of attracting postgraduate students who have similar research interests to enrol for their studies, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level, within the Department of Marketing, Retail Business and Sport Management.
    • Link the research undertaken to community engagement initiatives for the Department of Marketing, Retail Business and Sport Management and the Faculty of Management Sciences alike.

    When asked to share when she intends to complete her research project, she said that “There is no time limit as I hope it will become a continuously growing and developing project.”

    Her advice to students and staff members looking to study further is that “Knowledge is power, and it can open many doors. It is never too late to start something new or to change the circumstances of your life. Hard work always pays off and nothing worthwhile ever comes easy, it takes hard work, dedication and perseverance”.
