The interactive Matshidiso Mkhonza from Lakeside, Vaal obtained a Cum Laude in Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management. She began with a Diploma in HR Management at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) and proceeded to an advanced diploma in 2020.
Her academic journey began smooth until the sudden emergence of the global pandemic. It became challenging as she was ought to adjust to new norms of learning. “I only remember attending two classes and suddenly there was a lockdown, that was probably the hardest phase of my academic journey but nonetheless I pushed through” she says. Her source of motivation came from her lecturers at VUT as well as her family, it was a roller coaster but the people around her at that time were remarkably supportive.
Bubbly as she is, that part of her personality made it easier for her to manoeuvre group tasks and maintain a healthy working environment between herself and her fellow groupmates. She identifies herself as the stricter individual in a group task setting and that was her favourite part of being a student at VUT.
She dedicates this achievement to her daughter and advises the following below:
“I remember believing that I was too old to study, my peers began studying just after high school and I started at 25 years old. I never looked back and I never backed down. It matters not the age in which you start, or where you are from. If you want something, you go for it”.
