DR FINE MASIMBA OBTAINS DOCTORAL DEGREE IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Monday, 16th May 2022 was a memorable day for Vaal University of Technology (VUT) graduate Dr Fine Masimba who graduated with a Doctor of Technology (D-Tech in Information Systems on the first day of VUT’s winter graduation season.
The title of Dr Masimba’s thesis was: A Model for the Adoption and Acceptance of Mobile Farming Platforms (MFPs) by smallholder farmers in Zimbabwe. His promoter was Prof T Zuva and co-promoter, Dr MK Appiah.
Expressing excitement and appreciation for achieving having achieved a doctoral qualification, Dr Masimba said: ”I am so excited. This was a long and challenging journey. Thank God for the strength and perseverance to finish my studies”.
He acknowledged his wife and family for their support throughout the journey.
Dr Masimba plans to continue contributing to developing countries’ growth through research, as the world is being driven by the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) industry. “My research interest is into technology adoption, particularly mobile technology, and I would like to contribute to the development of African countries through research and help improve economies through the adoption of ICT”.
His advice to the young researchers is that research is not easy, but through perseverance, they will be able to contribute towards their country’s development. “It is a tough but exciting journey which does not stop at graduating with a diploma. “Go ahead and study further until you reach the final finishing line,” he advised.
Educational background
Dr Masimba obtained his BSc (Hons) In Information Systems and MSc (Information Systems) in 2009 and 2014 respectively, from Midlands State University in Zimbabwe. He has been employed as a lecturer in the Information Technology Department at the Catholic University of Zimbabwe since 2016. He commenced with his D-Tech- In Information Systems degree in 2018 under Prof T Zuva’s supervision. He has presented his research findings to international and national conferences. His research articles were published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr Masimba has supervised several students. Overall, he has Scopus H-Index 2 and has published over five papers with a total citation of 14.
