The Vaal University of Technology Southern Gauteng Science and Technology Park (VUT SGSTP) in partnership with Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) held the Idea 2 Product Lab Educators training launch on 3 July.
Dr Joseph Molete: Executive Director at VUT SGSTP delivered the welcome address. He focused on the success of the precinct and explained all the work they’re doing to reach out to the community. Following Dr Joe’s well-received address, Mr Zacharia Moalahi: HOD I2P shared a presentation on the I2P laboratory and what they do and how it has impacted the society thus far.
A moment waited upon was that of the keynote address by Ms Cynthia Sithole from TIA. She shared TIA’s innovation skills programmes and success stories, she called upon Ms Portia Mavhungu to share with the audience how VUT and TIA turned her idea into a working product. She now owns a company that is doing exceptionally well. Mr Willem Goodchild from the Department of Education spoke on EGD and CAD, 3D printing in schools and the future for education. .
As the presentations and speeches drew to a close; the educators in attendance were given a short training course at the I2P/FabLab on an introduction to 3D printing, safety procedures, printer operations and conceptualization of the prototypes to be designed.
