As it is said, “Through books we learn but through experience we understand”, the Engineering Committee organised a trip for engineering students on 18 May to the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg for the “My Future 4.0” event. The group, which comprised industrial engineering, metallurgy engineering and electrical engineering students, was exposed to technological companies and robotic equipment that shed light on global trends in engineering, medicine and science.
Not only was the day informative but it was full of fun. Students took part in gaming design technology; robotic surgery; coding competitions; laser shows; attended tech-talks and networked with thought-leading companies. They got the opportunity to meet and chat to the event’s brand ambassador, Pepper who is also SA’s first humanoid robot.
The event was enjoyed by everyone present and their thanks go to the Engineering Committee: SRC engineering faculty chairperson, Miss Lusanda Chiloane; deputy faculty chairperson, Mr Ndumiso Msimango; secretary, Mr Xongotelo Makhubele; and treasurer, Mr Tshembani Manganyi.
