On 13 February, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) hosted a public lecture which aimed to encourage both staff and students to apply for funding and to study abroad to broaden their horizons.
The lecture was conducted by Professor Raj Sashti who works as a specialist at the Fulbright Scholar Program. The programme awards about 8000 grants annually, half of which are awarded to foreign students. Several hundred teachers and professionals are also catered for.
Professor Raj encouraged students and faculty members to grab this opportunity with both hands as enhanced knowledge is invaluable when it comes to research.
He said: “When you think bigger, act bolder and collaborate more … you make an entire institution a great success. The key ingredient of your university and any other institution is about people, partnerships, relationships and connections. Let’s continue and grow those collaborations.”
The lecture proved that education knows no age limit and is key to success for both young and old; it is not only a ladder of opportunity, but it is also an investment in our institution’s future.
