On Thursday, 17 October 2019, at a ceremony that was held at Quest Conference Centre, Frigoglass awarded bursaries to 34 qualifying Vaal University of Technology (VUT) students to the value of over R1.663 million. The students, who needed a minimum of 65% on their academic record, are the first group to benefit from the company.
Frigoglass is a manufacturer of commercial refrigeration with customers such as Heineken, Coca-Cola and SAB and has recently manufactured a solar -200 (R134a0) refrigerator.
Mr RyanHaynes said the company aims to uplift the community and is also helping graduates to get ready for the work environment. The recipients of the bursary are given the opportunity to finish their studies and be given an internship for their designated career fields with this project.
“We will monitor, mentor, set up finance reporting structures and equip students/interns with any training that they need. We will also put up a facility so that they can start manufacturing for us with the aim for employment,” Haynes added.
Beneficiaries were excited to hear the opportunities that would come with working for Frigoglass and that they were given the chance to benefit from the company.
After lunch, there was a one-on-one session between the beneficiaries and Mr Haynes, using games to get to know each other better.
“I feel privileged to be amongst the top 34 students who are getting funded by the company and I’m also proud of myself because my hard work was not in vain, it pays off being on top of my game when it comes to my academics,” said one of the beneficiaries.
