Lungelo Magwaza
Mr Dawie Jacobs, a senior lecturer in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering, in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology is retiring after 31 years of service at the Vaal University of Technology.
Originally from Namibia, but currently residing in Vanderbijlpark, Mr Jacobs started his journey at VUT in 1987 as a lecturer in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering. While lecturing he completed his Master Diploma of Technology in Metallurgy. After completion, he went on to become a senior lecturer, and became involved in administrative work for his department. At the moment he is highly involved with the registration processes in the Metallurgy Department.
During the early 1990’s, Mr Jacobs completed a BSc Honours degree in Material Science through the North West University. He has won the Rector’s Award for Teaching Excellence, five times and has also received awards for external short courses that he has presented. Apart from the aforementioned, Mr Jacobs is a very principled man, a devoted Christian, hardworking and very self-motivated.
During his time at VUT, he has managed to maintain a very high standard of teaching throughout, and within the past year he has been training Nkele Baloyi (a young lecturer) to take over his administrative roles, and Blessing Maramba (a recently appointed lecturer) to take up the subjects that he has been teaching.
Farwell Mr Jacobs, VUT acknowledges and appreciates your years of dedicated service to the institution and to your students. You will surely be missed!
