Phumi Modau and Frans Pale, B-tech Human Resource Development (HRD) students, are to serve on the first SA Board for People Practice (SABPP) HR Youth Council which was launched on 31 August 2018.
They were elected by representatives from 12 universities which have a Student Chapter and who were present at the launch of the Youth Council at Glenburn Lodge, in Muldersdrift.
“We have always believed that hope is that stubborn thing inside us that insists, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us so long as we have the courage to keep reaching, to keep working, to keep fighting. We speak of these words because it was not a walk in the park or a smooth journey for the SABPP Student Chapter to get where it is now, but with the support of our lecturers in the HR department especially Dr Pierre Joubert and Miss Fatima Mohamed, we managed to pull through. As Henry Ford once said, ‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much’. These words speak of the power of team work which is what the SABPP Student Chapter is all about,” said the elected leaders.
“The Chapter wouldn’t be where it is now without the leadership of Miss Modau, the current chairperson of the Chapter and the Committee as a whole, it has been a great experience working with them,” said Mr Pale.
Miss Modau is responsible for risk and quality management while Mr Pale will be involved in research projects. The youth council is to give future HR professionals a voice in preparing the HR profession for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Dr Pierre Joubert, Head of Department (HOD): HRM, explained that the youth council will serve as the mini-board of the SABPP and will act as advisory body to the Board; generate new ideas for the profession; assist student chapters with achievement of their goals; create national awareness of the profession; standardise student chapter activities; and promote collaboration between universities. It will also develop leaders, promote HR citizenry, create alliances that advance the interests of the youth and ensure progression of HR Students.
