INTERACTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING WITH THE EON-XR APPLICATION
By Elvera Viljoen 10 June 2022
The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) has made significant strides toward becoming part of the EON Knowledge Metaverse by obtaining licences for the EON-XR application to enhance teaching and learning. The EON-XR application is a technology that will significantly improve online teaching and learning by making lessons more interactive and stimulating.
The EON-XR application is a 3D platform that shows 360° photos, 3D objects, and animations. The user can interact with anything by rotating and scaling it. Features such as the Explode and X-Ray functions are used to pull the object apart and see inside. Formative assessments can be created using three types of quizzes. The EON-XR application gives users access to augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) capabilities. The EON-XR application’s features will help students understand abstract problems better through virtual application.
Many VUT lecturers have already been trained in preparing lessons using the EON-XR application and the department of Biotechnology and Chemistry has used the EON-XR application in some of its subjects.
Sharing their experiences, a chemistry student said, “In the EON platform, one can visualize diagrams in 3D, and the lessons are more alive.”
Another student said, “It looks like an interesting app since pictures tell a thousand words; it will help us”.
Refer to the videos for examples of EON-XR lessons made by VUT. The EON-XR application can be used for various subjects, as shown in examples and use cases.
EON-Reality provides workshops, certificates and training resources. Lecturers are encouraged to book training sessions for the following:
