Some of the shoes designed by the COFE Students before their departure of China
Members of the Vaal University of Technology’s Southern Gauteng Science and Technology Park’s Centre of Footwear Enterprise (COFE) will be attending a seminar on Footwear Designing and Manufacturing Technology in China from 16 July to 5 August.
The seminar was organised by the Human International Business Vocational College which is celebrating a 60-year history. As a provincial exemplary vocational college, it is considered the cradle of China’s International business talents.
The invitation to the seminar was extended to personnel in areas of footwear designing and manufacturing-related companies and government officials from South Africa.
The seminar will be attended by nine students and their supervisor, Mr Mamalema Manyaka: Industrial Engineering Apprentice from COFE.
“I am looking forward to this seminar. I hope to gain advanced skills and learn new technologies in shoe manufacturing. This seminar will help me gather research on the evolving manufacturing markets and business opportunities. I will grasp as much knowledge as possible of international shoe manufacturing standards and come back to replicate them here in South Africa, at the Science Park,” said Mr Manyaka in an interview.
The students have been working hard to meet deadlines so as to leave no work behind before their departure. From 28 May to 14 July, the students were stationed at Bonang Masikhule Co-operatives, a shoe manufacturing factory which is based in Chamdor, Krugersdorp, for more training before their departure to China.
The seminar is commissioned by the Ministry of Commerce of China and it will take 21 days. Lectures and visits around topics such as the general situation in China; Footwear Structure Designing and Model Production; Production Management of Footwear Product; Introduction to Materials for Footwear Manufacturing; Advanced Footwear Manufacturing Technology of Chinese Factory and others, will be given to the students.
Through the seminar, participants will have a relatively full understanding of the current situation and perspectives of footwear designing and manufacturing technology both in China and the world.
