On Monday, 15 June 2020, the Vaal University of Technology Lesotho alumni hosted their first visual memorial service for the late Mr Tseliso Clovis Manyeli. He was an active alumni member of Lesotho chapter. He was a victim of a shootout and succumbed fatal injuries.

The closer members of the alumni group with the Alumni Relations hosted the memorial connecting at least 15 participants from the former Vaal Triangle Technikon and the young VUT alumni. The platform accorded the participants to convey their messages of condolences to the family which was represented by the cousin of the deceased and bid a final goodbye to their brother.

The memorial service was joined by family members (Mamesi Manyeli), Ms Thandile Babalwa Sunduza former VUT Miss Big and a member of Parliament, who is currently in the USA on a diplomatic mission as Consul General in the US (Washington DC). Programme participants were Mr Peter Masombuka, HoD: Alumni Relations; Mr Sasabona Manganye, former President of the Alumni Association, Mr Tshepo Nyewe family representative and former classmates and friends.

“It was the first visual memorial service to date and the response was good.  I thank everyone who took time to join and participated in the programme. “We hope to engage more with our alumni through online platforms in future” said Mr Peter Masombuka, representing all VUT alumni. This virtual memorial was streamed live on social media platforms; Vaal University of Technology 2 (150K followers) and Vaal University alumni Association (92k followers).
