Ubuhle Buka Zulu Celebrates 15 Years of its cultural heritage in VUT
Various artists that performed at the 15th anniversary celebration of Ubuhle Buka Zulu
Ubuhle Buka Zulu, VUT’s Zulu cultural structure, hosted its 15th anniversary celebration on 6 May at VUT Main Residence sportsgrounds.
They were joined by Swihluke swa VaTsonga and Umzi KaXhosa from VUT, the Zulu Society from Wits, Ingoboco from TUT, and MothoWaipetla Arts, the cultural group from Bophelong.
The MC of the event was celebrity actress “Emkay”, Mlungisi Mathe from Skeem Saam, and performing artists included the “Maskandi King” Shwi noMtekhala, Fihli’skwele, Sbangani and AmaVolontiya. Invited guests include the praise singer for King Zwelithini Mr M.B Mdletshe, Ms N.R Sbisi from the Department of Zulu Heart and Heritage, the Ingonyama Trust and Mr E Kele from Emfuleni Arts and Culture. Soweto TV was also present to cover the event.
Ubuhlebuka-Zulu have also been invited by Ms Sibisi and Mr Mdletshe to visit Enyokeni in KZN, to introduce themselves to King Zwelinthini and further strengthen ties and get insight on how to grow this cultural structure in VUT.
Despite a few glitches, the event was hailed a success and Ubuhlebuka-Zulu are eager about hosting their next anniversary celebration as they have already started with the planning process for a much bigger and better event.
