Vaal University of Technology helped shape my promising future
VUT Alumnus: Mr Siphiwe Mazibuko, Risk Manager at Nedbank.
Mr Siphiwe Mazibuko, Risk Manager at Nedbank, is a proud Vaal University of Technology (VUT) alumnus. He started his first year in 2002 studying Internal Auditing under the Faculty of Management Sciences and graduated with a Diploma in 2004.
Sharing his journey with us, Siphiwe explains how he climbed the corporate ladder with the skills and confidence gained through VUT, despite the many challenges he’s faced. In 2008 he was employed as a lecturer at Sedibeng College, later that year he then took a post at the Emfuleni Local Municipality as a waste collector.
Siphiwe’s hunger for growth and success pushed him further, while still working at Emfuleni, he applied for and got a job as an internal auditor at the public library. After 14 months he left Emfuleni and worked for an insurance company for a year. This unfortunately didn’t last as his contract was not extended. He was unemployed for two years.
Being resilient, he decided to put his free time to good use and applied for his BTech in 2015, he graduated in record time. His career has blossomed since then. Siphiwe is now moving up on the ranks and will be the Regulatory Risk Monitoring Officer for Nedbank Retail and Business Banking from the month of May.
“I am were I am today because of VUT and would like to thank the institution for giving me the platform to shine as an individual and be their graduate,” he said.
VUT’s honoured to have alumni such as Siphiwe flying the high and living out our missions to produce employable graduates who can make an impact in society.
