Greetings and compliments of the new year from VUT SPORT to the VUT community. This year promises to surpass the successes of the previous year for our sports people and our department.
2017 ended with the VUT beach volleyball team competing at the varsity competition held in Durban on 30 November to 2 December. The ladies competed valiantly against traditional universities placing sixth in the competition.
Vaal University of Technology (VUT) beat Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) twice during the tournament but was unable to beat the traditional universities such as University of Pretoria (TUKS) and University of Johannesburg (UJ) who have vastly superior facilities as well as high tech training equipment; this is always evident when competing against these opponents at Varsity Sport.
VUT will be unable to take part in the 2018 Varsity Beach Volleyball tournament this year, due to sponsorships falling through. The Sports Department is hoping to secure sponsorships, and welcomes all ideas in doing so. Our wish is for the Volleyball ladies to improve on last year’s performance but more importantly, to keep the VUT flag flying high.
This is also a great opportunity for their talent to be exposed because Varsity Sport is televised on Super Sport.
