Nelisiwe Nhlapo Mrs SA Finalist
On Friday, 7 July 2023 at the legendary Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, the Top 30 Finalists for Mrs South Africa were announced – among these women was our very own Vaal University of Technology (VUT’s) alumna Nelisiwe Nhlapo.
Out of a fiercely competitive group of 100 remarkable semi-finalists, the Top 30 Finalists secured their place among the nation’s most exceptional married women.
Being a finalist in Mrs SA is a dream come true for this Sebokeng-born and raised remarkable woman. Nelisiwe says she was inspired to join the programme after losing both of her parents to COVID-19 and having to bury them at the same time. She describes how that sad event became her defining moment and how her life came to a halt as a result. After much soul searching, she decided to embark on a path of healing, re-discovering herself, reigniting her passion for life, and, most importantly, regaining her power, and Mrs South Africa seemed to be an ideal platform for this.
“My why is to always strive to be a better version of myself, and I must say that I have grown tremendously since joining Mrs South Africa. I’ve had the opportunity to test myself and push myself outside of my comfort zone. I’ve never done anything like this before, and for the majority of the competition, I was outside of my comfort zone, and I’ve seen myself expand and grow to lengths I never thought I’d do in such a short period of time,” she said.
“After being sashed as a finalist, I have this renewed zeal for life and a burning fire in me to see this journey through to the end,” she continued. “I am eager for the future and hope that my narrative will remind other women of the power of their tale and the potential they have if they choose to believe in themselves. As I grow, I intend to use my platform to inspire and touch more people.”.
Mrs South Africa is the country’s leading pageant for married women, offering participants a renowned self-development programme, as well as the opportunity to positively impact their communities. Through mentorship, leadership training, workshops, and personal development, the pageant empowers its contestants with the skills and tools necessary to effect meaningful societal change.
The Grand Finale, where one finalist will be crowned , will be held on 17 November 2023, and promises to be a spectacular event celebrating the beauty, intelligence, and leadership of the next generation of Mrs South Africa’s powerful sisterhood of change-makers.
VUT is super proud of Nelisiwe Nhlapo, and congratulates her for reaching this stage of the pageant and wishes her success at the grand finale.
