The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) graduate, Thabiso Miya is on a mission to make technology more accessible to the elderly. A self-confessed aspiring app developer, Miya graduated with a Diploma in Information Technology (IT) at the University’s Autumn Graduations, earlier this week.
Thabiso, who hails from Seapoint, Kwa-Zulu Natal says seeing his grandmother struggle with some of the applications used on smart phones, is what inspired him to pursue a career in IT. Later, he then developed the passion and determination to become a software and app developer to assist the elderly and disadvantaged people to have easy access to the latest technological applications.
Although he hasn’t been able to fulfill his dream, he is certainly working towards it by investing on gaining the necessary knowledge in the field – he is currently enrolled for an Advanced Diploma: Information Technology with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).
Thabiso believes that his study years at VUT, played a major role in growing up to being an independent self.
Having lost his parents at a young age, he says he was raised and supported by his grandmother and aunt, who is also a VUT alumnus who studied Chemical Engineering at the University.
We wish him all the best in this noble endeavor.
