Ms Shirene Klink, from the Research Directorate at VUT, was one of only 10 people from Southern Africa to be awarded a place on the 2019 StoRM exchange programme.
The Strengthening of Research Management or StoRM project, funded by the European Union, aims to develop the profession of Research Management and Administration (RMA) in parts of Europe and in Southern Africa.
Ms Klink, who holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) and is currently working as a Project Manager responsible for the finance and academic exchange programmes of the Research Directorate, applied for the award through South African Research and Innovation Management (SARIMA).
Ms Klink left on Saturday, 23 February for SOAS University of London to attend a fortnight of networking and information exchange sessions with others from Africa and Europe, courtesy of SARIMA.
She is excited about the trip although she says she is a bit nervous about adapting to the chillier weather of England.
She acknowledged the Director and her colleagues of the Research Directorate for the support and the well written motivation which was vital for the application process.
She expected to submit a detailed report to SARIMA regarding the trip and lessons learned when the group returns from London on 8 March.
