The VUT Southern Gauteng Science and Technology Park celebrated youth day in style under the banner “Youth Entrepreneurship Day”. This event was initiated by the Public Relations Department which sees the importance of encouraging young people to become involved in changing their communities and their country for the better.
The purpose of the day was to bring together the youth of the Vaal to discuss opportunities that are there to empower and bring change in their lives. “The youth of 1976 united and stood up against a discriminatory and oppressive education system. As the youth of 2017 what are we uniting against?” asked Manani Hlongwane: Public Relations Officer. She and Lebohang Pitso: Marketing Consultant, were the programme directors of the day.
Mr Tshepo Mahanuke: Engineering Specialist, emphasised the importance of the day and how VUT SGSTP is playing a role in encouraging entrepreneurship and community empowerment. He mentioned that there are opportunities at the Science Park for people who are interested in education, business and science.
“Our offices are open to you and we would love to contribute to your better future,” he said while thanking merSETA for sponsoring the event.
Performances of the day included a play, “The Science Show Concept” by McubedH, music from Soul Renovators, Acatears and Pretty and poetry from Morongoe, Given and McubedH.
Mr Moeketsi Montshitsi, Public Relations Coordinator at Science Park, thanked everyone for coming.
