The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) welcomed all its newly appointed employees as well as existing employees to the HR induction programme on 28 February. This programme for new staff is run by the VUT Human Resources Department to help them understand how the institution operates and give them an idea of what it is like to work at VUT. It also provides them with essential information on the benefits, entitlements, support services and opportunities available to them.
The programme supports employees to adjust to their new roles and to effectively integrate them into the institution.
Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Gordon Zide gave the welcoming address. Prof Zide encouraged all the participants to join forces to build up the life and soul of VUT.
“In every meeting, we need to talk about our values,” he said. Using quotes by the late OR Tambo, Prof Zide encouraged all employees present to leave a legacy and to discharge their responsibilities with pride. “You have come at the right time, welcome to VUT,” he said.
There was also an introduction through presentations by different VUT departments to outline their purpose and activities within the institution.
Outcomes of the programme include an understanding of VUT history, administrative and academic structures, governance systems, VUT culture, values, mission and strategies.
Participants also had the opportunity to learn about some of the support services available to them at Human Resources
