In true South African style, the Science and Technology Park hosted a braai to start the new year. The warm spirit of camaraderie amongst colleagues lingered in the air, with food, music and dance being the order of the day.

Prior to the celebrations, Dr Joe Molete, Executive Director of the Science Park, opened with a short presentation discussing staff development. He stressed the importance of working together as a united front in order to achieve the goals stated in the strategy.

“We can only succeed if we are enthusiastic and work as a well-integrated unit. A positive relationship starts from top management down,” he said.

Prof Irene Moutlana, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, also imparted her wisdom to staff members with a message about VUT evolving into an organisation that shifts its focus to the principle of “The Triple P” – whereby People, Productivity and Profit are important.

“Our institution should aim at placing its employees first, ensuring that they come to a healthy and happy working environment which leads to effective results.”

The Chief Financial Officer, Mr Leslie Coetzee and former Executive Director of the Science Park, Professor Deon De Beer, also imparted their thoughts and encouragement to fellow staff members.

The braai was also held in celebration of many of 2015’s successes, amongst them being that VUT Science Park successfully hosted the SATN conference. Its success was put down to the hardworking and passionate staff members who operated like a well-oiled machine around the clock to ensure that it was indeed a world-class event held at a world-class facility.

Here’s to an even more effective and results-driven 2016!
