On 14 August, the Science Park, held a merSETA Programme Induction for Interns and students who are in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, and Industrial Engineering referred to as P1 and P2 students.
Interns will focus on the business aspects while P1 and P2 students will be introduced to the practical side of things.
“It’s only through your push that you will be able to make something of yourself,” said Mr Lionel Nkomazama: HR Projects Controller who directed the programme. The Executive Director of VUTSGSTP Dr Joseph Molete was introduced to share the strategic direction of the Science Park. This was later followed by questions from the interns.
Second up was Mr Tshepo Mahanuke: Reverse Systems Engineering Specialist. He focused on the motivation behind the programme and the partnership between VUT and merSETA. He said the programme came about as a response to the number of unemployed graduates. They wished to give them exposure to the industry so that they could at least either further their studies or better their chances of becoming employed.
Mr David Mauchline: Additive Manufacturing Specialist, was the third speaker and his presentation was on additive manufacturing and its importance in self-employment and in the country as a whole. Concluding his presentation, he shared with the interns a few insights into the future of additive manufacturing and 4D-printing.
To close off the induction, the safety team from the VanderbijlPark Campus took the interns through the safety procedures that included a practical tour of some of the venues.
