The F’SASEC (French South African Schneider Electric Education Centre) VUT initiated a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) training this year with the intention of transferring practical knowledge to upcoming Electrical Engineers.
The first session was held from 15-17 November and will be followed up with four sessions next year.
Mr Riaan Greeff, who runs the training, says that their first session has seen positive feedback as it has immediately connected the needs of electrical engineering students to those of the industry. He acknowledged that even though the participating students were at BTech level, they had not covered some of the modules included in this course.
The training offers a background and an overview of how PLC is used and students who complete all five sessions will be better equipped to go out into the workplace.
Mr Brunel Balukidi, one of the students who attended the training, says that the training should continue as there is much more that can be accomplished and so much more to learn. He said: “As I came here, I came as a learner who didn’t know anything, but I am leaving with something”.
