The Vaal University of Technology’s (VUT) Community Engagement Department visited the Lochvaal Emfuleni Welfare, a non-profit organisation, on 8 August as part of its programme to reach out and touch lives this year.
The Welfare was founded in 2001 by Miss Sally Bruwer to provide the basic necessities to 137 poor, hungry, homeless families who had lost everything, sometimes even their dignity. The organisation provides the men, women and children at the Welfare with skills to uplift and motivate them, so they can contribute to society.

The Community Engagement Department delivered clothes and shoes to the Welfare and offered to provide skills to the women and men, including career development, cooking and sewing skills. The Welfare is open for more donations from individuals and organisations, as they strive to provide a stable environment for the needy people living at the centre and in the surrounding areas.
