Learners from different schools around the country attended the Vaal University of Technology’s (VUT) annual Open Day on Saturday, 18 May.
Learners were welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Gordon Zide who said: “a good life is not impossible and difficult circumstances shouldn’t determine your future”. He encouraged learners to base their futures on the principle of “I will” and never turn against their backgrounds. “You need to show your first respect to your parents,” he said.

In a motivational moment, he asked learners to repeat after him: “I will make a difference to my parents, family, community and to myself.”
Mr Philip Masike the HOD: Student Recruitment gave a presentation on the faculties and requirements that learners need to achieve to make it through to VUT. Mr Masike thanked the learners for attending and said that they shouldn’t think that coming to the event was a waste of time. One of the junior MAVUTIs opened the event by leading the national anthem and prayer was said by Mr Masike.

Learners had the pleasure of visiting all the stalls that were present to learn more about the departments and different programmes that are offered at VUT. They also played table tennis, participated in practicals organised for them and danced to music as VUTFM broadcast live.
