Disable students showed how the lifts function

An official opening of the newly built elevators at Vaal University of Technology (VUT) was held on Wednesday,31 July 2019. This was a triumph for students living with disabilities as it has always been a challenge for them to access some venues.
The elevator between b-block and c-block; platform step lift in the Foyer and the lift next to the Desmond Tutu Great Hall stage are for the sole use of students who are unable to use steps. The students are very happy with the changes around campus, it is now convenient and safe to move around and get to classes without any hassle – “A world to a better future” now has meaning to them.
Masungulo Simango, a second-year Civil Engineering student and Rethabile Khabane, a second-year Analytical Chemistry student expressed their gratitude for the lift.
Masungulo said: “It will now be easy for me to attend all my classes on time, especially going to the labs.”
Such initiatives are what helps to create a friendly and welcoming environment for all VUT students, staff and guests.
