IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW CAMPUS- WIDE MODEL OF MATLAB AT VUT

Organized by Jules Djeumen, a VUT lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Department, the Electrical Engineering team met with the MATLAB team led by Yona Baskharoun from the Netherlands, Mathworks, and Opti-Num, Mathworks’ Sub Saharan Distributors represented by Londeka Mhlongo and Cardon Perumal to discuss the implementation of the new licensing model known as the Campus-Wide Model at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT).
“Campus-Wide Model is a type of license that all other universities are adopting now and is a standard application that will benefit VUT faculties immensely,” said Dr Hendrick Langa: Research Coordinator: Electrical Engineering.
According to Dr Langa this software is a standard software that if you are an engineer, you cannot do without. “Post this meeting, the next step is to implement the license as soon as possible without delay, “he added.
MATLAB is used by millions of engineers and scientists all over the world to develop engineering and scientific solutions to problems that face humanity. They build systems and algorithms, analyze and process data. MATLAB provides various tools, libraries and capabilities to perform Computations Programming and Design, Signal Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Modelling and Simulation, Control Systems, Embedded Systems and many more applications.
“VUT has a number of licenses across the campus which will be retired by Mathworks”, said Yona. A number of universities in South Africa have already implemented this online solution and VUT is also negotiating the way forward regarding its own implementation of MATLAB in teaching and research.
