AGAINST ALL ODDS: WILLIAM MALATJIE OBTAINS MASTERS IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

On Monday, 16 May 2022 the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) conferred a Master’s – Information Technology degree on Software Engineer, William Ratjeana Malatjie.
The Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences was the first to award degrees and diplomas to its students.
The title of Mr Malatjie’s dissertation is: Acceptance of Biometric Authentication Security Technology on Mobile Devices. His supervisor was Dr Van Eck and co-supervisor was Prof T Zuva.
According to Malatjie, his journey “has been long and quite challenging. However, through perseverance and searching for new beginnings, I made it”. He further expressed appreciation to VUT for playing a tremendous role in making his research a reality by supporting and providing the necessary resources. The institution demonstrated an understanding of social backgrounds and the economic instability in South Africa.
Malatjie encouraged future students to be committed to the journey ahead and open their eyes to diverse opportunities within the tertiary education sector. “There is no manual for this journey, but effort filled with passion can make the dream a reality”.
In addition to working as a Software Engineer, Malatjie is also pursuing doctoral studies. “What lies ahead is a future with more expectations, a new environment and a new career”, he said.
