Lecture title: Modelling and Computational Challenges in Manufacturing Simulations

Lecture abstract: Computational mechanics, and particularly the Finite Element Method (FEM), has been extremely successful since its inception in the 70-ies. It is now possible to simulate a wide range of phenomena on various scales. FEM is the everyday tool in mechanical design for engineers, reducing testing to a large extent. The method has also moved into design of manufacturing processes, although in varying degree of maturity in industry as indicated in Fig 1.

The talk will present today’s state of art where multiphysics with coupled microstructure and property models are used for simulating individual as well as chain of manufacturing processes. The focus is on modelling issues but also some computational challenges will be addressed.
