The French South African Schneider Electric Education center (FʼSASEC) in VUT visited Lethabo Power Station on Friday, 6 September 2019. The purpose of the visit was to expose students to (Industry 4.0) and prepare them for the work environment.
Although students could not visit the plant, the induction was clearly beneficial to them. Ms Kutloano Gazide, a student at the training centre experienced the tour as informative because she can now differentiate between Power Cut and Load-shedding. She further mentioned that “We never really value electricity due to being ignorance and being uninformed”. “from today onwards, I will make it my responsibility to make sure that everyone around me understands the importance of Electricity generation and its distribution”.
Mr Riaan Greeff, FSASEC Coordinator mentioned that although the Centre gives 80 percent of practical training and he reckons that taking students to the industry helps them to have a full understanding about the operations of a plant. “I am also an Electrician and I really hope that this visit to Lethabo will be beneficial for all because we all learn new things everyday”. Students are currently busy with practical training on industry installations and the visit to Lethabo Power Station came in handy, he concluded.
