Communication Access Organisation of South Africa (CAOSA) is a leading ICT Public Benefit Organisation that advocates effective communication in South Africa. It is one of the civil society organisations, operating nationally in partnership with chapter 9 institutions.
CAOSA, in partnership with Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS); Government Communication and Information System (GCIS); Department of Communication (DOC); VUT and Sedibeng District Municipalities held a tradeshow and ICT Capacity Building for NGOs 2018 on Monday, 19 November 2018 in the Desmond Tutu Great Hall. The theme of the event was “Empowering NGOs through ICT access and digital connectivity”.
The purpose of the event is to bring stakeholders in the ICT industry together to discuss ways in which NGOs and other civil society organisations can be empowered by increased digital connectivity.
The mission of CAOSA is to address the digital divide in South Africa. They are participating in nationwide, collaborative research to improve access to communication for the poor in both rural and urban areas. They work closely with the mobile network operators, fixed line operators, postal services, broadcasters, local government structures and traditional authorities.
Representatives from different partners presented their organisations and how they assist the NGOs with ICT capacities. These companies are based on digital and ICT programmes.
The delegates from NGOs interacted with the presenters and asked questions related to their connectivity and other digital challenges.
