VUT Handy man: Mr Nkosi
Dieketseng Motsepe
There are many departments which make up a Campus, including its residences. There are a lot of people working within VUT who contribute to its standing and daily operations.
One such person is Mr. Nkosi November who works as a handyman. His duties are very broad as he works as an electrician and carpenter. He started working at VUT in 2013 under agents and has been on a yearly contract since 2016.
The positive talks he had with his colleagues motivated him to complete his education as he previously dropped out but is now currently completing his studies in Electrical Engineering at Sedibeng College. In future he sees himself working at the SABC as he believes that with pure determination and will, all things are possible.
He advised other service workers to complete their studies as education is free nowadays! However, he says that people should not expect hand-outs and there are always alternatives at their disposal. He explained that it is not about how people view you but how you see yourself and that you should look within and improve yourself.
“If we live life according to society and what people think, one will never be truly happy and fulfilled in life. The little person should always be taken into consideration despite the position they hold,” he said.
